Position Overview
The Art Teacher will foster creativity while teaching students foundational and advanced artistic techniques, helping them understand art’s role across time and cultures. Instruction will be tailored to meet the developmental needs of students in various grade levels and will emphasize both technical skill and artistic expression.
Key Responsibilities
Implement a visual arts program aligned with the Core Knowledge curriculum
Design and deliver engaging, standards-based art lessons that connect with grade-level content across the curriculum
Provide students with meaningful opportunities to explore, create, critique, and present visual art
Regularly assess student progress and maintain accurate records for progress reports and report cards
Collaborate weekly with colleagues across departments to align instruction, share best practices, and analyze student data
Maintain a safe, structured, and inspiring classroom environment by consistently applying the school’s assertive discipline model
Participate in all staff meetings, team planning sessions, and professional development opportunities
Support school-wide events, exhibitions, and interdisciplinary projects
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Art, Art Education, or a related field (required)
Strong understanding of visual arts history, theory, and practice
Ability to deliver instruction that supports both artistic technique and creative expression
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to evaluate student progress and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs
Strong classroom management and organizational abilities
Collaborative mindset and experience working in team-based environments
Familiarity with relevant state and federal education regulations and school policies
Experience writing student reports and interpreting learning data
Problem-solving skills and a proactive, student-centered approach
Ability to plan and implement instruction that aligns with school objectives and student abilities
Experience or interest in supporting interdisciplinary instruction (preferred)
