Long Term Substitute Physical Education Teacher (Grades K-12)
Position Overview
The successful candidate will be an individual who firmly believes: All students can and will learn, and that their learning can be directly influenced by focusing on factors over which we have control;
In the need to work interdependently with teachers, school, and district leaders throughout the system, aligning the work of adults around improving student learning by meeting the needs, interests, and aspirations of students;
In the need to work in partnership with staff to continuously improve practices to enhance student and family engagement, creating the conditions for equity, excellence and student success; and
In meeting students' academic, social, and emotional needs and aspirations so that each student feels valued and has a sense of belonging, leading to academic success
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination, and teamwork; to develop students' understanding of the importance of exercise to physical and mental well-being; and to motivate students to work towards, physical fitness, hygiene, and good health. This position is considered exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Primary Responsibilities
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
Develop and administer Physical Education classes consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Teach knowledge of, and develop skills and abilities in, physical fitness, rhythm and dance, coordination and agility, exercise, and sports,
Develop students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and appropriate feedback to regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Assist in coordinating extra-curricular activities, including student performances, assembles, and athletic events.
Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
Ensure that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Coordinate with other professional staff members, especially within physical education and grade level, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
Select and requisition appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintain inventory records.
Inspect equipment and field areas used to ensure they are in good and safe working order.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Preferences
We strongly prefer candidates who have exhibited excellence in collaboration with colleagues and an enthusiasm for working with students. Preferred candidates will also have a demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning as evidenced by graduate-level work or an earned degree, as well as participation in professional organization conferences or seminars related to the content area. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of: Current physical education instructional methods, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles
Data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans
Applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding education and students, as well as relating to health education
Physiology, health and nutrition, biology and biological functions, anatomy, hygiene, exercise, and best ways to promote physical and mental well-being
Ability to: Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone
Use computer network system and software applications as needed
Organize and coordinate work
Communicate effectively with students and parents
Engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must have earned a B.A. or B.S. degree, with a Master's degree preferred, and current Minnesota State Licensure in Physical Education. Additional demonstrated qualifications include: commitment to the equitable education of all students, creative planning and organizational skills, and highly effective interpersonal skills. Previous experience working with studentsusing differentiation, guided reading, and technology skills preferred. Prefer candidate with experience working with diverse learners.
Licensing Requirements
Current Minnesota Physical Education license or eligibility is required. Additional licensure in Health Education preferred.
MN State Certification as a Physical Education Teacher.
MN State Certification as a Health Teacher preferred.
Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Salary and Benefits
The starting pay for this position is between $259.28 - $300.43 per day (After 30 days) and y our initial placement is dependent on your qualifications (education and years of relevant experience). How to Apply
