Brookline Recreation Department in conjunction with Brookline Public Schools are seeking enthusiastic and skilled part-time Instrumental Music Teachers with expertise in a variety of instruments to help inspire the next generation of musicians.. We are seeking skilled and enthusiastic teachers for private, one-on-one lessons in the following instruments:

  • Woodwinds: Clarinet, Flute, Saxophone
  • Brass: Trumpet, Trombone, other low brass instruments
  • Percussion: General Percussion, Drum Set
  • Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass

Responsibilities:

As an Instrumental Music Teacher, you'll provide private, after-school lessons to students, primarily in grades 5-8, ranging from beginning to advanced levels. We are looking for teachers who are skilled at the following:

  • Teaching instrument technique and fundamental skills to help students learn their instrument and excel in their school-day Band or Orchestra classes.
  • Creating a supportive and respectful learning environment that fosters high expectations and encourages student growth.

Schedules and Pay:

We are flexible and seeking teachers who can commit to one or multiple days a week, with the possibility of shorter timeframes on specific days. Pay is $46 hourly.

Lessons generally run Sept. 28 to mid-June during the following timeframes:
• Monday through Thursday: 2:45 PM - 6:15 PM
• Fridays: 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College or Advanced Degree in Music, Music Education, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience;
  • Experience teaching school-aged children in an instructional setting;
  • Ability to teach one or more of the listed instruments

Background Check Requirement:

All candidates will go through a background check through the Criminal and Sexual offender database as required by the Town of Brookline.

Additional Information:
Music Instructors will work under the general supervision of the Brookline Recreation Department Recreation Leader II – Adult Education. Instruction will take place in a variety of Brookline schools & Town Buildings.
