This position is a Hilo-Waiakea Complex Area Special Education Resource Teacher position. The teacher will support 17 school PreK-12 in the Hilo-Waiakea complex area. The focus of the position will be 60% in schools providing professional development, observing, modeling, and coaching teachers in behavioral (focus) and academic strategies for students with disabilities. Additionally, assisting teachers with developing and implementing student support plans (formerly behavior support plans), collecting data for goals and objectives, and supporting data analysis. Further, 15% of the time is focused on researching evidence-based practices, data collection methodologies, and developing professional development/coaching materials. Finally, 20% of the time is focused on collaborating with colleagues to integrate complex initiatives seamlessly for streamlined school support. The remaining 5% of the time is dedicated to other duties as assigned. The candidate must be able to collaboratively work with peers in the complex- as well as school-level. Flexibility is important with excellent communication skills. The Hawaii State Department of Education is committed to hiring highly qualified teachers in every classroom. With the exception of designated Career and Technology Education (CTE) positions, the minimum qualification to apply for a teacher, librarian or counselor position is a Bachelor's Degree.
If you are hired without completing a Teacher's Education Program, you have a maximum of 3 years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license. You must enroll in a Program to continue employment with the Department. Within each year of employment, you must satisfactorily demonstrate active pursuit towards meeting Hawaii licensing requirements, as set forth by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB). It is your responsibility to ensure the program you have enrolled is aligned with the teaching line you are hired in.
