SUMMARY
This position provides instruction to students and performs a wide variety of tasks with curriculum planning, supervision, presenting and reinforcing learning concepts, and teaching children in a classroom setting.
DUTIES Teaches District approved curriculum.
Evaluates each pupil's growth in knowledge and skills in the course being taught.
Grades homework and tests, computes and records results while also providing meaningful feedback.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to students.
Distributes homework assignments and assessments and collects them when they are completed.
Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
Plans a program of study (daily and unit) that is aligned to the curriculum, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media that differentiates instruction to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
Enforces administration policies and rules governing students.
Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, schoolyards, gymnasiums, and on school related field trips.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
Assists in diagnosing the learning disabilities of students with the assistance of district specialists.
Evaluates academic and social emotional growth of students, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates student progress to appropriate sources (students, parents, and staff).
Participates in IEP meetings with district administration and other staff as determined by district administration.
Keeps accurate records of purchases and expenditures for supplies, equipment, travel, fees, etc.
Maintains an up-to-date substitute folder.
Participates in teacher's meetings and in-services as well as completing the required continuing education training requirements.
Prepares budgetary requests in a timely manner and follows district/building procedures for requisitions.
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
Maintains professional relationships with fellow staff while coordinating common practices for vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum within the prescribed scope and sequence.
Maintains a professional relationship with fellow staff that encourages sharing, planning and working together toward improved instructional skill and student success.
Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and personnel as is expected of all staff.
Demonstrates professionalism towards both students and colleagues.
Remain available for students and parents for education-related purposes outside of the instructional day, such as parent-teacher conferences.
Stays informed of the changes in education and takes any opportunities to grow and develop professionally.
Perform all other duties reasonably related to the position as may be assigned by the Building Administrator or Superintendent.
CONTENT SPECIFIC DUTIES/SKILLS Assists student(s) with classroom activities.
Works closely with faculty and staff to identify eligible children for Special Education services.
Works with faculty and staff in order to establish priority for services for all children.
Works with parents disseminating information concerning individual student progress and the Special Education program in general.
Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
Coordinates and runs IEP meetings throughout the school year for students with disabilities.
Constructs IEP's for students with disabilities in order to help students navigate their education in the least restrictive environment.
Counsels with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis
Assists the students transferring between classes and throughout the building.
Controls student's classroom behavior.
Discusses assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts.
Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
Tutors and assists children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
Completes required reports in a timely manner.
Teaches socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement.
Works with students with multiple physical, mental, and developmental disabilities.
May work with/handle resistive students.
Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers
QUALIFICATIONS Professional Educator License for the particular position as required by the State.
Basic computer literacy.
Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, staff, and community).
Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
SCHEDULING
The schedule is subject to change with district demands in compliance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement. The current work hours are 8:05 a.m. to 3:35 p.m.
