High School Special Education History Teacher

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education History Teacher to join our high school faculty. The ideal candidate will provide differentiated instruction in social studies/history to students with diverse learning needs, including those with IEPs (Individualized Education Programs). This teacher will work closely with general education teachers, special education staff, and families to ensure all students meet academic goals and receive the support they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement effective history/social studies lessons tailored to the needs of students with IEPs.
Modify and adapt instructional materials to meet students’ individualized learning needs.
Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure inclusion and co-teaching opportunities where appropriate.
Conduct ongoing assessments and maintain detailed documentation of student progress.
Develop and implement IEPs in compliance with IDEA regulations.
Participate in IEP meetings and communicate regularly with parents and guardians.
Foster a supportive, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment.
Manage classroom behavior and use positive behavioral interventions.
Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local special education laws and regulations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, History, Social Studies Education, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Prior experience teaching high school students with disabilities strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of instructional strategies for diverse learners.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Commitment to equity and inclusion in education.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with IEP software and data management tools.
Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and restorative justice.
Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
