FULL-TIME HIGH SCHOOL SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER
The following position is being posted for the 2025-2026 school year.
DESCRIPTION: Full-Time High School Social Studies Teacher
LOCATION: Meridian Early College High School
STARTING DATE: As Soon As Possible following School Calendar
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certifications/License: State of Michigan Secondary Social Studies Certification. RX 6-12 preferred.
Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
Applicants must meet highly qualified requirements of No Child Left Behind Endorsement.
Relevant teaching experience.
RATE OF PAY: Per Master Agreement between the Meridian Public Schools Board of Education and the Meridian Education Association plus full benefit package.

EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER
DISTRICT-WIDE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Meridian Public Schools, in partnership with parents, students, businesses and the community, are committed to and responsible for ensuring the highest level of academic achievement and career planning for all students, the highest performing organizational structure at all levels, and a safe and effective learning environment for all students.
SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. Teachers are responsible for planning, organizing and implementing an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Meridian Public Schools teachers are committed and focused to student centered learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaches 9th - 12th grade social studies utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education through the lens of project based learning.
Develops and administers high school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual small group instruction as needed.
Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other schoolwide learning outcomes such as collaboration, verbal communication, written communication, and agency.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
Coordinates with other high school professional staff members, especially within grade level and specific subjects, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles
Knowledge of high school cirriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught
Knowledge and experience with project based learning preferred, but training on P.B.L. will be provided
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Knowledge of relevant technology, data information systems, data analysis and formulation of action plans.

TRAVEL REQUIRMENTS:
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings/trainings as required.

The employee must have the ability to move/lift up to 25 pounds. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables and desks. Specific vision abilities required by the job includes close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
