The SEED School of Maryland is a statewide, public, college-preparatory boarding school that opened in August 2008. The School has enrolled 400 students in grades 6-12. The SEED School is an extraordinary educational opportunity for students across the state to receive a tuition-free, college-preparatory, boarding education.
The SEED School of Maryland combines a rigorous and engaging academic curriculum with life skills and enrichment activities to provide students with a balanced learning and living experience. Students and their families commit to a seven-year educational program that offers small class sizes, high quality teaching and learning experiences, mentoring, community service, and extracurricular activities such as sports and arts. The SEED School is centered around its core values: compassion, self-discipline, integrity, respect for oneself and others, responsibility, honesty, and self-determination. The SEED School staff are partner with parents, families, and communities to guide and support student success. The School follows a typical academic school year calendar.
Position Summary:
The SEED School of Maryland is seeking a passionate, qualified, and student-focused Health Teacher to join our academic team. The Health Teacher will design and implement a comprehensive health education curriculum that promotes wellness, personal responsibility, decision-making skills, and lifelong healthy habits. The ideal candidate is committed to working with diverse learners and collaborating with staff to support student success both inside and outside the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate health lessons aligned with Maryland State Health Education Standards.
- Teach topics such as nutrition, mental health, substance abuse prevention, human sexuality, physical activity, hygiene, and personal safety.
- Integrate culturally responsive practices and social-emotional learning into daily instruction.
- Assess student progress and provide timely and constructive feedback.
- Foster a classroom environment that promotes respect, inclusion, and a positive learning atmosphere.
- Collaborate with colleagues, including dorm staff, counselors, and families, to support the holistic development of each student.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school-wide activities.
- Serve as an advisor or mentor as part of SEED’s whole-student approach.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Physical Education, or a related field.
- Valid Maryland State Teacher Certification (or eligibility for certification).
- Experience teaching middle and/or high school students.
- Strong understanding of health-related content and adolescent development.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Education or related field.
- Experience working in urban or boarding school settings.
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
- Passion for working with underserved and diverse student populations.
- Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
- Commitment to educational equity and social-emotional learning.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and staff.
