The Opportunity:
The First Grade Teacher will:
Establish a safe, respectful, inclusive, and academically rigorous classroom environment aligned with FMA's core values: Cooperation, Accountability, Respect, Engagement, and Safety (Our Five Bees).
Implement high-quality instruction using the Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) and Illustrative Math curricula.
Integrate social-emotional learning using a schoolwide program, Wayfinder.
Plan differentiated lessons that meet the academic and developmental needs of all students, including English Learners, students with IEPs, and those needing enrichment or intervention.
Use data-driven instructional practices, including formative and summative assessments, to monitor student growth and inform teaching.
Collaborate with colleagues in grade-level and cross-grade teams, specialists, and support staff to ensure coherent, integrated instruction.
Maintain strong communication with families and caregivers, fostering partnerships that support student learning and wellbeing.
Maintain accurate records for attendance, academic progress, and student behavior using school and district platforms (e.g., Aspen, Educators' Handbook).
Participate in professional development, instructional rounds, and schoolwide improvement initiatives to support student achievement and school climate.
*Please note that the Expanded Learning Time program requires an 8 hour and 25 minute workday for this position.
Your Skill Set:
As the incoming Grade 1st Teacher, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications: Massachusetts State Elementary 1-6 teacher certification and SEI Endorsement (required)
Bachelor's degree required from an accredited college or university, Master's degree in elementary education preferred
Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching
Strong classroom management and organizational skills
Familiarity with or willingness to learn CKLA, Illustrative Math, and SEL programming
Experience in an urban public school or diverse learning environment
Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and trauma-informed practices
Bilingual or multilingual skills (especially Spanish, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, or Amharic)
