Inspire the next generation with us! Under the direction of the Early Learning Center Director, the Floater Teacher supports various classrooms as needed to maintain staffing ratios and ensure a safe, nurturing environment for children ages 15 months to 5 years. This position primarily assists with daily routines, is responsible for adapting to different lesson plans, and implementing developmentally appropriate activities for the various classroom assignments. The Floater Teacher collaborates with classroom staff to provide consistent care and a positive learning experience. This position follows a 10-month school-year schedule aligned with the Center’s school calendar and this position will be eligible for some or all benefits depending on final agreement for regularly scheduled hours.

Primary responsibilities include, and are not limited to:

Support implementation of classroom goals:

  • Create a safe and nurturing environment where children can play, learn and take risks
  • In partnership with Early Learning Center Co-Directors and peers, facilitate a collaborative, dynamic, positive, and innovative classroom culture
  • Step into any classroom (toddler or preschool) to maintain ratios and support transitions
  • Communicate effectively with teaching teams and report any concerns to supervisor
  • Collaborate with the teaching team and Co-directors, promptly and effectively sharing observations, providing support, and working together to meet the needs of all the children assigned and to implement/maintain high quality teaching.
  • Assist with classroom setup, cleanup, and maintenance of teaching materials
  • Monitor and ensure the health, safety and security of all children in classroom.
  • Adhere to all EEC regulations and JCC policies; follow all safety and health guidelines.

Supervise and engage children in daily routines, play, and learning experiences and provide support to meet each child’s individual needs as required.

  • Adapting approach to facilitate each child’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth and development.
  • Assist child’s awareness of their own needs and the rights of others.
  • Assist each child in the verbalization of feelings and emotions.
  • Encourage a child’s independence leading to a sense of competency.

Partner and communicate with families:

  • Establish positive, interactive relationships with families
  • Aid parent and child in their adjustment to school (transition to a schedule, building community, and providing support resources)
  • Promote and maintain effective clear communication to strengthen parent-school partnership and to optimize care and educational experience

This is a part-time up to 35 hours/week role (may have flexibility in the regular schedule offered). Level of benefit eligibility will ultimately depend on the regular schedule upon hire and aligned with the Plan document and regulations. We offer a vibrant and supportive work environment and a competitive starting salary range of $40,800 – $50,872 annually.
*The salary listed is for a Full year FT position. The salary offered will ultimately be determined by number of hours worked per week, relevant qualifications, experience, and JCC's internal equity.

Requirements

Education and Experience: Massachusetts EEC teacher certification is required or must be willing and able to become certified upon hire and within the first year of employment. Requires at least 2 years’ experience working with young children in a classroom setting. Candidate must be at least 18 years of age and have a High School diploma or equivalent.

*Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet this minimum hiring criteria.

Skills and Abilities:

Requires knowledge and familiarity with the needs of families with young children, with a creative ability to translate ideas, feedback, and data into innovative and meaningful experiences that meet the needs of families, including but not limited to:

  • Floater teachers must be able to quickly adapt to different classroom settings, lesson plans, and age groups, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn; demonstrates the ability to adapt to evolving needs and circumstances.
  • Displays a nurturing approach to working with children and a strong desire to make a difference every day
  • Strong organizational skills, including teamwork, relationship-building skills, the ability to multitask, and manage situations effectively and diplomatically
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability and commitment to build strong relationships with families, co-workers
  • Commitment to create and foster a dynamic environment where play and learning are a top priority
  • Ability to use ipad and have basic computer skills
  • Demonstrates excellent time management skills
  • Must be a self-starter who takes the initiative

  • Must have a record of successfully working well independently and with others, building/sustaining collaborative working relationships.

Physical Requirements: Able to work well and reliably in person in a busy, dynamic, and sometimes noisy environment involving multiple tasks and priorities. Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Able to sit and kneel; getting down at eye level with children regularly. Adapt to varying environmental conditions, including temperature fluctuations within the building or during outdoor activities. This position is performed on-site and requires in-person presence on JCC Sharon Campus.
