SUMMARY: The primary function of the Classroom Teacher is to develop the student's skills, knowledge, concepts, generalizations, principles, appreciations, and attitudes that will promote the fullest possible development and assist him/her in valuing the dignity and worth of himself/herself and others. He/she provides, within the classroom, educational program for the students and may assist in other programs within Safe Harbor Ohio.

Job-specific essential functions include the following:

  • TEAM FIRST: Makes every effort to maintain a 'team first' spirit and atmosphere within the workplace environment, maintaining appropriate working relationships and promoting collaboration.
  • Instructs assigned classes during the assigned days and times.
  • Develops and implements curriculum for instruction that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of their students, as well as state and other regulations.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is consistently conducive to learning/appropriate to the needs of the students while encouraging open thinking, generating new ideas, and challenging rigid thinking.
  • Possesses a working knowledge in the subject area and prepares for classes assigned, shows written evidence of preparation, upon request.
  • Guides the learning process towards an understanding of the curriculum goals through methods such as joint problem-solving and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicates these objectives to the students.
  • Uses classroom technology to meet the needs/capabilities of the students in the classroom.
  • Strives to meet the unique needs of the classroom through instruction and action.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, offers feedback to students and provides progress reports to the Envision Academy Administrator.
  • Recognizes and differentiates the methods of instruction on a regular basis to meet the unique needs of their classroom and individual students.
  • Takes reasonable precautions to protect the students, self and the classroom environment.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records.
  • Develops classroom expectations that are congruent with already established campus rules in which the expected classroom behaviors are managed in a fair and just manner.
  • Makes provisions to be available to students, staff, and administration for education-related purposes before/after the school day when requested to do so.
  • Attends staff meetings, gives feedback week for Weekly Program Reviews, and responds to appropriate emails.
  • Listens to and communicates skillfully with students, staff, and leadership.
  • Supports the purpose of the school through/with other staff members and maintains a high expectation of students, oneself, and other professionals.
  • Encourages and supports learning by displaying a reinforcing personality including empathy, humor, and consistency.
  • Promotes cooperation and team effort through shared successes.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Classroom activities and students.


REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Working understanding of education terminology and necessary requirements to fulfill specific education duties. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret education documents such as transcripts, IEPs, and testing requirements. Ability to write, evaluate and teach curriculum.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Must be able to communicate well with colleagues, verbally/in writing to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to apply common sense. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Competency with a personal computer, and familiarity with Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment, as well as cope and tolerate high levels of stress.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Must maintain proper certification in teaching area/active Ohio teaching license.
  • Intervention Specialist credentials required.
  • Classroom teaching experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with children from hard places strongly preferred, especially in classroom setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, and hear, including a requirement to stand or walk for extended periods of time, sometimes through uneven terrain.
  • Often required to use hands/fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly able to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to be outdoors in various weather conditions for extended amounts of time.

  • Must be able to drive a vehicle legally and safely in the state of Ohio.
  • Must maintain compliance/certification with Safe Harbor's requirements for using physical restraints (SCM: Safe Crisis Management), including sufficient strength and completion of extensive training. Physical ability to respond to crisis, including, but not limited to running and performing physical restraints.

CONTINUOUS QUALITY IMPROVEMENT (CQI): All Safe Harbor staff are expected to focus on Quality improvement as a part of their job responsibilities, in an effort to make the Agency a safe and healing environment for clients and staff. This expectation includes, but is not limited to teamwork, improving service delivery, fulfilling department goals, and other job-specific tasks that encourage excellence.



This position is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check and drug test, satisfactory reference checks (emails were previously sent to the 3 references listed on your application), as well as the completion of a satisfactory Department of Justice National Sex Offender search and Ohio Alleged Perpetrator Search, as required by our licensing agency.
