Job Summary
Qualifications: Current Alabama Teacher's Certification, Bachelor's Degree or higher with an endorsement in English Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Design and implement a mass media curriculum that integrates traditional ELA competencies (writing, reading, speaking, listening) with modern media practices (digital publishing, video production, podcasting, social media content creation, etc.). Create an inclusive and imaginative classroom atmosphere that promotes exploration of both historical and emerging forms of mass communication (print, radio, TV, film, internet, etc.). Lead student media projects such as school newspapers, video announcements, podcasts, blogs, or social media campaigns. Teach students how to analyze media messages, understand media bias, and become responsible consumers and creators of information. Guide students in ethical and legal media practices, including copyright, fair use, attribution, and digital citizenship. Collaborate with various teachers to create interdisciplinary units and showcase student work across platforms. Serve as an advisor or sponsor for media-related extracurricular activities such as yearbook, broadcast club, or digital journalism teams. Use current and available educational technology and media production tools Assess student progress through both formative and summative evaluations, and provide timely, constructive feedback. Foster strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members to enhance real-world media learning opportunities. Stay current with trends in media literacy, communication technologies, and best practices in mass media education.
