Position Summary:
The Elementary Teacher Assistant supports the lead teacher in creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes academic, social, and emotional development. The assistant will help implement lesson plans, provide individual and small-group instruction, supervise students during class and recreational activities, and assist with classroom organization and communication with families.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the lead teacher in implementing daily lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with the school’s curriculum.
Provide academic support to individual students or small groups, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.
Assist with classroom management and behavior guidance, modeling positive behavior and encouraging respectful peer interactions.
Supervise students in a variety of settings, including the classroom, playground, lunchroom, and during school events or field trips.
Prepare and organize classroom materials and resources.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized learning environment.
Help assess student progress through observation and data collection as requested by the lead teacher.
Foster a nurturing, inclusive, and positive classroom climate that encourages curiosity, responsibility, and independence.
Communicate professionally with staff, students, and families, respecting confidentiality and school policies.
Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and school events as required.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or coursework in Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
Prior experience working with children in a school or childcare setting is strongly preferred.
Passion for working with children and supporting their growth and development.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
Patient, reliable, and flexible in a dynamic school environment.
Ability to follow instructions, accept feedback, and take initiative when appropriate.
