WORK SCHEDULE: 4 hrs/day when school is in session. 191 days, calendar available upon request.
PURPOSE: Provide physical education instruction aligned to Oregon Common Core to students K-5. Includes development and instruction of recess guidelines and activities, as well as leadership on fundraising activities and community events.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Meets the standards of Competent and Ethical Performance as outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR 584-020-000 to 584-020-045). The following are examples of principle duties; however, any one position may not cover all duties listed and examples may not cover all duties an employee is expected to perform.
Curriculum Development and Planning:
Understanding of the curriculum areas the teacher is responsible for instructing (physical education & health), and ability to seek resources to continuously develop and integrate curriculum over time.
Ability to work with a team of teachers and aides to structure curriculum and plan lessons based upon the School mission, vision, academic goals and objectives.
Ability to work cooperatively and independently to implement lessons based upon the schools goals and objectives.
Attend required curriculum planning sessions and professional development prior to school
opening, and ongoing at regular intervals as determined by need throughout the year.
Instructional Requirements:
Knowledge of teaching and learning strategies to meet a wide range of student learning abilities and styles. Ability to adapt teaching methods to needs of the student population.
Knowledge of instructional technologies and ability to utilize computer and multimedia technology as appropriate
Ability to thrive in a place-based, project-oriented, cooperative learning environment.
Provide high-quality instruction in the core curriculum areas for which employed; make appropriate use of instructional resources and technologies.
Plans a program of study designed to meet District physical education goals that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
Enthusiasm for using outdoor space as a classroom, experiential learning opportunities, and scientific exploration.
Continue to seek professional growth and development in the curriculum areas for which employed
Work with teaching team members to identify needed professional development
Classroom Management:
Maintains an orderly and supportive classroom environment in which students are actively participating and show respect for one another and for the teacher.
Engage strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, parents, and community
members from diverse backgrounds and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Willingness to build and maintain an environment for students that emphasizes community and is structured for engaged student learning. Includes IEP accommodations, appropriate scaffolding for exceptional learners, and a focus on inclusion.
Perform classroom management duties; enforce rules governing the conduct of students; take appropriate disciplinary action with students when necessary
Responsibilities to the School Community and Charter:
Responsible awareness and implementation of school charter and policies.
Lead, support, and attend school events as required by the school.
Perform duties as a shared staff community including student supervision in common areas as determined by staff collectively.
Contribute to the Schools efforts by partnering with other staff to contribute to student achievement and the alignment and sustainability of resources
Maintain positive contact and communications with parents of students and partner with them to further the academic development of the student; participate in parent teacher conferences
Maintain professional and ethical behavior while at school and in the community.
Assumes responsibility for assigned non-teaching duties; i.e., clearing gym, playground duty, etc.
Takes all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, material, and facilities.
Responsible for the selection of equipment and other instructional materials.
Child Information and Evaluation:
Participate in parent/teacher conferences and Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings, including referral, intervention, and planning phases as needed.
Evaluate student performance in accordance with systems used by the state and the school; promote student achievement; maintain required student records; make related reports to the School board.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Oregon Elementary Teaching License, PE endorsement preferred
Standard First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within two months of hire, may be required.
Physical and Mental stamina to be able to keep up with high-energy, academically & physically varied students.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens. Supervision responsibilities require the employee to be able to stand up to 30 consecutive minutes and move rapidly to intervene in situations where a student's safety is being jeopardized.
NOTE: This part-time position CAN be combined with other available positions to become a full-time position.
