QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in area of responsibility. Bachelor's Degree in area of major study. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB DESCRIPTION
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOAL : To develop, in each student, skills and knowledge of music and an appreciation of the art of music.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaches skills in music theory, harmony, and explorations in music to elementary students utilizing a course of study adopted by the Board of Education. Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time. Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students. Controls the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performance. Evaluates each student's musical growth and performance. Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for school and community. Maintains required inventory records of books, musical instruments, and instructional aids in the music classroom. Communicates with parents and school staff on student progress. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and solving health, attitude, and learning problems. Supervises student in out-of-classroom activities as assigned. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs. Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities. Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the District, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities as related to music.
