ECE Teacher Assistant Location/Dept.: The Salvation Army Kroc Center - Philadelphia, PA Availability: Immediate Schedule: Part Time (up to 29 hours per week) Reporting Relationship: ECEC Supervisor/ECEC Director Salary: $15.45 per hour Responsibilities
The Early Childhood Education Center Teacher’s Assistant (ECECTA) will provide extra assistance to plan, implement and assess the long term success of the ECEC children. The Teacher’s Assistant will utilize the curriculum collaboratively as a foundation for lesson planning and assure there is healthy and safe environment for the children and families served. The Teacher’s Assistant will engage in positive and professional parent/child/staff relationships. This position is required to will keep records and complete reports which ensure the standards of excellence are maintained. They will participate and maintain professional development and attend staff training. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications
An Assistant Teacher shall attain one of the following minimum qualification levels based on the standards set by the Department of Human Services (DHS). A high school diploma or equivalent GED certificate and 15 credit hours plus 1 year experience or 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field. A high school diploma or equivalent GED certificate, including a minimum of 600 hours or completion of a post-secondary training curriculum of secondary training described in the state standards relating to age and training. A high school diploma or equivalent GED certificate and 2 years’ experience with children. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: At least 18 years of age. A minimum of one year on-the-job training in providing a nurturing indoor/outdoor environment meeting the child’s out-of-home needs. One year (plus) of experience under qualified supervision working as a teacher serving the ages and developmental abilities of the children in care. Thorough knowledge of normal child development and early childhood education, as well as knowledge of indicators that a child is not developing typically. The ability to respond appropriately to children’s needs in addition to the ability to recognize signs of illness and safety/ injury hazards and respond with prevention interventions. Successful completion of training during onboarding includes but not limited to: Pediatric First Aid and CPR Mandated Reporter within 30 days with recurrent training every 5 years Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check and National Sex Offender Registry. Must possess understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army and the RJKCCC. This position requires effective oral and written communication skills. Sound judgment and emotional maturity are requisites.
