Position Overview
The Charter School of Wilmington is accepting applications for Computer Science Teachers who are excited to share our mission of engaging students in a world-class education that prepares them for college and beyond.

As the Computer Science Teacher, you will deliver high-quality instruction by implementing a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum. You will collaborate with teachers and instructional leaders to examine student learning, identify successes and opportunities for growth, and continually grow in your craft to ensure students fulfill their academic and personal potential.
Primary Teaching Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be prepared to teach a combination of courses including, but not limited to:
- AP Computer Science Principles
- AP Computer Science A
- Software Engineering
- Robotics
- Computer Science Discoveries (Grades 9-10)
- 3D Computer Modeling
- Video Game Design
- Execute a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum and adopt a data-driven approach in assessing students' progress
- Plan and deliver engaging, project-based lessons that reflect current industry and academic practices in computer science
- Demonstrate an interest in designing curricula that reflects the ever-changing world of technology
- Collaborate with the computer science and math department to share best practices and build a continually growing program
- Foster a classroom environment that promotes collaboration, critical thinking, and responsible digital citizenship
- Exhibit strong self-awareness and reflection skills with a strong desire to continuously grow professionally and personally
- Possess a growth mindset and be quick to incorporate feedback into your daily practice
- Set and reach ambitious goals and demonstrate the ability to thrive in a high-performing school environment
- Support student interest through clubs, competitions, or extracurricular activities related to technology and computing
- Opportunity to lead competitive, state- and nationally-ranked academic clubs and organizations
- Partner with local colleges and universities to support dual enrollment coursework and advanced learning opportunities
- Maintain accurate records and provide timely feedback to students and families
- 3+ years of teaching experience preferred
- Understanding of high school computer science standards preferred
- Demonstrated experience closing student opportunity gaps
- Proficient in Java, Java Script, HTML, and Python
- Commitment and enthusiasm for working with a high-performing student population with a focus on community and cultural awareness
- Optimism, resilience, curiosity, and a strong passion for personal growth and student and teacher success
- Bachelor's Degree in secondary education with a concentration in computer science, or
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science with education certification
- Master's Degree preferred
- Hold or be eligible for Technology and Engineering Teacher certification in the State of Delaware. Details can be found here.
- Experience with robotics systems (e.g., VEX, LEGO EV3, Arduino)
- Knowledge in 3D modeling software
- Knowledge in video game design
- Industry or applied experience in software engineering or digital media
- Knowledge of AI platforms and their appropriate uses in an educational setting
- Experience teaching in a high-achieving, college-preparatory, or STEM-focused environment
- Ability to lead student competitions, tech events, or academic extracurricular activities
- Salary will be computed in accordance with the experience and training of the individual selected and in accordance with the salary schedules for employees of The Charter School of Wilmington
- Direct deposit of payroll checks is mandatory for state employment
- Employees are paid on a lag pay schedule with the first payment made after approximately one month of employment
- A criminal background check, Delaware Child Protection Registry check, and tuberculin test are required
- Candidates must demonstrate in the interview process an understanding of how varied student backgrounds and experiences can impact learning, along with the ability to support an inclusive and equitable classroom environment
