Experience in special education, teaching, or a related field preferred. Valid Texas Teacher Certification in Special Education. Nature & Purpose of Position: Responsible for instructing students in an elementary school from Kindergarten through Fifth grade. Creates and maintains an educational atmosphere that encourages effective student learning and supports school programs and goals. Primary Responsibilities: Implements and administers into daily student instruction appropriate educational curriculum, which is aligned with the Texas State Standards. Ensures the opportunity for all students to learn in a supportive environment. Creates and maintains a positive and orderly learning condition in the physical education environment. Develops and implements the Components of an Effective Lesson for instruction. Analyzes student progress and provides appropriate instruction. Provides a classroom management/discipline plan ensuring safety at all times. Ensures assessment regulations and guidelines are followed at all times. Develops a classroom/school climate that promotes positive learning conditions. Works professionally and cooperatively with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students, and the community. Integrates technology into the instructional program. Ensures developmentally appropriate skills and activities are implemented. Demonstrates knowledge, skill, and ability to provide instruction in an elementary physical education setting. Guides the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals. Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned with instructional objectives, in order to meet the needs of all students. Participates as an active member with other faculty and staff. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and school policy. Maintains and improves professional competence. Performs other related duties as assigned. Other Specifications: The Charter School Special Education Specialist supervises support of all Special Education services for K-6 students at all campuses.
This includes: provides support for students in grades K-6 weekly, writes initial IEPs for students that qualify for services. Confers with lead teachers, classroom teachers, and paraprofessionals regarding student support and scheduling of services. Updates documentation annually as needed. Maintains district Special Populations binders in all classrooms. Supports students receiving Special Education services during local and state assessment. Writes progress reports on all Special Education students and disseminating progress reports to classroom teacher each nine week grading period
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Communicates effectively both written and orally.
Must be willing to travel between zoned Charter School sites. Sites located in Greater Houston area.
