Closing Date: Until Filled Job Summary: The bilingual special education teacher's primary goal is to provide instruction in Spanish to children with disabilities according to the child's Individual Education Program (IEP). The teacher is responsible for developing objectives and timelines that are appropriate to the student's needs as indicated in their IEP. The teacher is responsible for planning and implementing engaging instruction in a self-contained setting that is aligned with the curriculum and modified to meet the needs and abilities of each student. The teacher monitors student progress and communicates regularly with parents, staff, and administrators. The teacher collaborates with other classroom teachers and related service providers in the development and implementation of best practices, thus ensuring that the student's needs are met in all school settings.
Primary Responsibilities: Develops lesson plans that demonstrate the important concepts and skills in each subject area, as identified by the district's curriculum. Prepares lesson plans that incorporate best practice instructional strategies for each subject matter. Uses a variety of Instructional resources and materials in planning engaging and differentiated activities that are structured to advance student learning. Develops, implements, and monitors IEPs that are tailored to each student's academic and social/emotional needs. Utilizes a variety of teaching methods and instructional materials to accommodate different learning styles, providing one-on-one or small group instruction based on student needs. Designs a variety of student assessments that are aligned with the learning outcomes, using both formative and summative assessments to: Monitor student progress toward the learning outcomes; Monitor student progress toward their IEP goals; and Adapt instruction for the whole class, individuals, or small groups of students.
Prepares for IEP meetings by updating relevant sections of the IEP in accordance with deadlines set forth by the Coordinator- Special Education. Promotes positive and supportive relationships with students. Maximizes the use of instructional time by: Establishing efficient classroom routines and procedures; Guiding instructional groups; and Managing classroom transitions.
Enhances the learning environment by: Arranging the classroom to support instruction and student activities; and Utilizing available technology and instructional resources to engage students.
Manages classroom behavior by: Communicating clear expectations for student conduct; Proactively monitoring student behavior at all times; and Responding to student misbehavior in an appropriate and respectful manner.
Actively assesses student understanding during instruction, providing constructive feedback designed to inform students of their progress and how they can improve their work. Reflects on instructional practices in order to improve teaching and student learning. Communicates frequently with families providing information about: The instruction and learning that is taking place in the classroom; The academic and social emotional progress of individual students; and How families can participate in their students' learning.
Qualifications : Current and valid Illinois Professional Educator License with special education (LBSI) and bilingual (BSPA) endorsements. Candidates who have passed the state TLP Spanish test and have obtained an ELS (TBE) license may also be considered. Foundational knowledge of Google Classroom applications. Individual must be flexible, creative and child centered. Ability to assess the learning of students and modify or enhance instruction as needed. Ability to analyze various forms of data and use the information to make instructional decisions. Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using standards-based varied teaching methods to address student learning styles. Strong knowledge of the WIDA and Common Core State Standards, and instructional best practices in language, literacy, and mathematics. Ability to work with the special education coordinator to facilitate IEP meetings. Candidate must be able to speak, read, and write Spanish fluently. Salary and Benefits: Starting salary of $53,279. Qualified candidates may be granted up to twenty years of verified full-time teaching experience for credit on the salary schedule.
