Job Description
Job Title: *Assistant Teacher Before and After School Care *FLSA Location: Cookson and Kyle Elementary Schools Troy, Ohio
Reports to: School Age Childcare Director Revision Date: July 2024
*Position Summary:*
Responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of all activities. The Lead Teacher is responsible for ensuring the children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental development in the program, as well as keeping safety and the well being of the children as a first priority. Hours for this position are 6:30 am to 8:30 AM before school and 3:30 PM to 5 :30 PM after school.
*Essential Functions:*
· Responsible for all aspects of program development, quality, and safety.
· Cooperates with ODJFS staff for required reports and inspections; responds to inspection requests within required timeframes.
· Maintains appropriate adult/child ratio.
· Maintains a clean and sanitary environment and meets all state and local licensing requirements.
· Inspects equipment within the building for safety hazards, damage, or wear.
· Communicates any suggestions to the School Age Childcare Director or the Lead Teacher to improve the site operations.
· Monitors and assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the program area.
· Maintains accurate records for childcare programs.
· Communicates to School Age Childcare Director or Lead Teacher of any concerns or incidents that may need follow-up.
· Builds relationships with members, program participants and community partners.
· Remains visible to participants when on duty.
· Increases program participant awareness of healthy lifestyle factors.
· Attends parent events/family programs such as Open House.
· Maintains records and reports as requested by the Childcare Director.
· Support the Lead Teacher in planning and executing daily activities, including academic enrichment, arts and crafts, sports, and recreational games.
· Protects confidential information regarding program participants, families, and staff members.
· Assist students with homework and provide academic support tailored to individual needs.
· Implement and reinforce positive behavior management techniques to create a respectful and collaborative play environment.
· Prepare materials and resources for activities and assist with cleaning and organizing the program area.
· Be prepared to respond to emergencies in accordance with program policies and procedures.
*Core Expectations:*
· Knows and administers the appropriate EAP (emergency action plan) for any situation, including first aid or CPR, work-related employee injuries, etc.
· Completes incident and accident reports as required.
· Is courteous and gives sincere attention to members by answering questions and providing positive and regular feedback to program participants.
· Upholds guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook of the Association.
· Attends designated trainings and staff meetings.
· Carries out other duties as assigned by the Director or Management Staff.
· Notifies supervisor and reports suspicions of abuse or neglect to appropriate local public service agencies.
*Qualifications:*
· Must be at least 18 years of age and possess high school diploma or GED.
· High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework in education, child development, or related field is a plus.
· Previous experience working with children in a classroom or group setting preferred.
· CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen required within first 60 days of employment and kept current.
· Preferred experience of 1 years’ experience of working with children demonstrating the ability to motivate and supervise staff. Planning and program development skills are helpful.
· Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Also required is frequent hearing and talking, in person and on the telephone. More than 90% of time is spent indoors. The noise level is normal to loud within an active YMCA program environment.
