Teaches students with respect for their individual and cultural characteristics. Knows the teacher's content area and how to teach it. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils. Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences. Has the ability to use current technology to enhance instruction and for record-keeping and research. Applies knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs. Facilitates, monitors, and assesses student learning. Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. Identifies pupil needs, makes appropriate referrals, and develops strategies for individual education plans. Creates and maintains a learning environment where all students are actively engaged and contributing. Provides individualized and small group instruction to meet students' needs. Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning, with attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of students' work. Supervises the student environment, students, and volunteers. Works as a partner with parents, families, and the community, communicating regularly through newsletters, notes, phone calls, and conferences. Participates in and contributes to the teaching profession.

Bargaining Unit: AEA Work Year: 182 days, 12 contract payments FTE: Full time, 1.0 FTE Salary: B00/00 - B72/20 ($56,823-$100,155) DOE Job Summary Creates a flexible and supportive classroom environment that fosters learning and personal growth. Establishes rapport with students, parents, and staff, and motivates students to develop essential skills, attitudes, and knowledge. Reports to and is evaluated by the site principal.

This position requires a valid Alaska educator certificate. The number of work days is based on the AEA negotiated pay scale. Salary details and potential changes depend on student enrollment and staffing needs. Positions with different FTE levels have varying retirement benefit eligibility.

Physical / Mental Demands Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Visual abilities are essential. Occasionally lift items under 40 lbs. Must understand instructions, recall facts, handle conflicts, and make decisions under pressure. Must manage stress and work effectively with diverse individuals in a dynamic environment.
