Adapted PE Teacher (187/191 Days) REVISED-(RTP20241204-018) Description
Evaluate students based on the referral request using appropriate APE assessment tools. Develop and write an appropriate APE evaluation based on the APE assessment. Develop and write appropriate PE goals and objectives based on the APE assessment. Recommend appropriate APE service time based on the APE assessment and the need of the student. Attend Annual ARD and/or FIE meetings. Provide the instructional support of APE at all levels to students identified as qualifying for APE services. Demonstrate and/or provide modified activities for the PE teacher, SPED teacher, and/or paraprofessional. Maintain documentation of APE services that are accountable, efficient, professional, thorough, and timely. Ensure all timelines are met at 100%. Ensure all APE service time and instructional support is met at 100%. Provide appropriate equipment based on the need of the student to the PE teacher, SPED teacher, and/or paraprofessional. Coordinate with all stakeholders to provide an optimal physical education experience. Participate in required professional development and professional growth opportunities to stay abreast of new policies and procedures. Attend APE meetings and any other meetings as assigned. Communicate effectively and efficiently with all stakeholders by use of emails, phone calls, and/or face-to-face conversations. Demonstrate flexibility, organizational skills, positive attitude, technology skills, and time management. Perform Special Olympics duties and responsibilities as assigned. Comply with district policies on managing travel expenses. Keep informed of and comply with district, state, federal regulations and policies for SPED and instructional programming, and disseminate information to appropriate district personnel. Use district material, equipment, and technology appropriately. All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, if appropriate. Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree (Master's degree strongly preferred with Adapted Physical Education specialization) from an accredited university in a related field. Texas teacher certification in Physical Education. Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a physical education classroom or related experiences. Demonstrate expertise in Adapted PE assessment and instruction of students with significant gross motor delays and cognitive delays, including research-based teaching techniques, instructional delivery, and instructional materials. Demonstrate knowledge and ability to compose an Adapted PE evaluation report with corresponding PE goals and objectives. Demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders. Demonstrate knowledge of and willingness to remain current with curriculum trends, innovative programs, and best practices for students with significant gross motor delays. Demonstrate strong organizational skills, communication, interpersonal skills, and writing skills required to achieve the goals of the position. Demonstrate experience in program implementation and interpretation of district, state, and federal regulations. Demonstrate knowledge of and training in instructional strategies. Must attend any Special Olympics events after school hours which could include weeknights, weekends, and overnight stays at various locations. Events and responsibilities are subject to change every year. Must provide its own transportation and the ability to work independently while adhering to district policies. Work Locations
