About the Position: Up Excellence Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Grades 3-5 ELA/Social Studies Teacher to join our team of exceptional educators. This role is essential to fostering the academic and character development of our upper elementary students, helping them build critical literacy and analytical skills while deepening their understanding of history, culture, and society. Our ELA/Social Studies teachers create an engaging, inclusive, and rigorous learning environment that promotes a love for reading, writing, and critical thinking.

Primary Job Functions:

Academic

  • Deep Content Knowledge: Design and implement rigorous lessons aligned with academic standards that build literacy comprehension, writing proficiency, and social studies knowledge.
  • Effective Delivery of Instruction: Use research-based teaching practices to deliver lessons that are engaging, interactive, and responsive to diverse learning needs.
  • Planning and Assessment: Develop lesson plans, assessments, and progress monitoring tools to evaluate student growth and inform instructional decisions.

Supporting All Scholars

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the varied academic and social-emotional needs of all students, including English language learners and students with special needs.
  • Provide targeted support and interventions to ensure that every scholar achieves success.

Character

  • Culture Leadership: Model and promote core school values, fostering a positive classroom environment where scholars learn to collaborate, persevere, and grow.
  • School and Classroom Expectations, Procedures & Structures: Establish and maintain clear expectations, procedures, and routines that maximize instructional time and support student independence.

Family Partnership

  • Maintain regular and effective communication with families, providing updates on student progress, upcoming events, and ways to support learning at home.
  • Foster meaningful partnerships with families to create a collaborative approach to student development.

Adult Culture

  • Contribute to a professional and inclusive adult culture by participating in staff meetings, collaborative planning, and professional development opportunities.
  • Support colleagues through shared practices, feedback, and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Education, English, History, or a related field (Masters preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification for elementary education or subject-specific certification in ELA/Social Studies (or actively working towards certification through an alternative certification program or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in upper elementary or intermediate education.
  • Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with differentiated instruction and working with diverse student populations.
  • Familiarity with data-driven instruction and progress monitoring tools.
