ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM TEACHER

Brief Description of Position - Provides an educational program for pupils in grades Kindergarten through Sixth, or a combination thereof, and assists in other school programs as assigned.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Teaches all subjects and other appropriate learning activities according to the state and local curriculum requirements.

2. Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic communication and social skills, as well as other state and local requirements.

3. Develops and utilizes lesson plans and instructional materials to provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adopt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.

4. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

5. Evaluates pupil's academic and social growth and discusses progress with pupils. Keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.

6. Communicates with parents through a variety of means. Holds parent conferences when needed to discuss the individual pupil's progress and interpret the school program.

7. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.

8. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.

9. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district, and/or self-selected professional growth activities.

10. Performs basic attendance accounting and keeps other records as required.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids and supplies, and maintains required inventory records.

2. Insures a comfortable room environment through control of heating, lighting, and ventilation to the extent possible.

3. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.

4. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.

5. Participates in curriculum development programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level.

6. May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals.

7. Participates in faculty committees.

Supervision Exercised of Received:

Under the immediate direction of the site administrator.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

1. Credential: General Elementary, Standard Elementary, or other appropriate California credential authorizing service in the position described. Credentials issued on a partial or full completion of requirements basis are applicable.

2. Education: Bachelor's Degree, including all courses to meet credential requirements.

3. Experience: Student teaching (8 semester hours or 180 clock hours) or two years of full-time elementary experience.
